At 5:41am yesterday I got this text from Amanda: “water broke this morning” and within a few hours I was off to Halifax Medical Center to document Finn’s birth story! When I arrived Amanda and Richard were relaxing, talking about how they met and what a small world it was. We talked about their jobs, their friends and the fact that they hadn’t quite decided between two names for their son. As I am sure you have figured out they went with Finn, which fits their coastal lifestyle perfectly!
After a few hour of contractions Finn was facing up rather than down in the birth canal. Dr. White recommended a C-section, but Amanda wanted a natural birth if possible so she stuck it out – she was such a trooper. The nurses had her try some different positions but in the end Finn was a stubborn little guy and a last minute c-section was done to ensure his safety. Finn’s path into the world may have went a little differently than originally planned but the outcome was still the same – a beautiful, healthy baby boy!
Words never seem quite sufficient to describe a family bringing a new LIFE into this world. THANK YOU for inviting me to capture Finn’s first moments, it was an honor. Wishing you guys lots of boat rides and salty air as a new family of four.
